FAQ

What this is and why it exists

Straight answers to the questions people keep asking.

What is this?

RecUnion is a fan project reverse-engineering Rec Room's server infrastructure. The goal is to let the existing game client connect to community-run servers after the official ones shut down on June 1, 2026.

Who's working on it?

A handful of developers and long-time players. Nobody here is getting paid. Most of us just don't want to lose the game we spent years in.

Why not just let it go?

Because Rec Room wasn't just a game for a lot of people. It was the place they met their best friends, learned to build things, or found a community when they didn't have one. That doesn't deserve to just disappear.

Is this legal?

We're not distributing any of Rec Room's code or assets. We're building replacement server software that speaks the same protocol. Think of it like fan-run servers for MMOs that shut down. The game client already exists on your device.

When can I play?

Honestly, we don't know yet. Some parts work, many don't. Auth and basic connections are functional. Room joins and gameplay are still being worked out. Follow the Discord for real updates instead of promises.

How can I help?

If you know C#, Unity, networking, or reverse engineering, jump into the Discord and ask where help is needed. If you don't have technical skills, you can still help by testing, reporting issues, documenting the old game, or just spreading the word.

Are you affiliated with Rec Room Inc.?

No. This is independent and unofficial. We have no connection to Rec Room Inc. or its parent companies.
